The December 7, 1941, attack on Pearl Harbor was a devastating blow to the United States that ended the country's isolationist stance and thrust our troops into the thick of battle on several fronts during World War II.
Since 2000, the Stillaguamish Valley Pioneers have remembered the sacrifices made on that day and beyond with a special Military Day ceremony held at Pioneer Hall. This year's event will take place Monday, December 7, from 1 to 4 p.m. at the hall, located at 20722-67th Ave. NE in Arlington.
"Members of the American Legion and VFW will perform a flag ceremony at about 1:15 that day," said Myrtle Rausch, president of the volunteer historic organization. "Veterans are invited to bring their scrapbooks or photos to share, and the museum's military display will be open for viewing."
The commemorative ceremony honors all past and present military personnel. Service members are invited to sign a guest book and receive a special red, white and blue ribbon. The volunteers serve coffee, punch and cookies for the event.
"We hope all our local veterans will join us for a day of remembrance," said Rausch.
