Santa Run

Deputy chief Tom Cooper is among the Arlington firefighters helping with the department's Santa Run, beginning December 5 and continuing through Dec. 16.

Santa and his helpers will be making the rounds in a bright red Arlington fire truck beginning Saturday, December 5, collecting donations for the local food bank and spreading holiday cheer throughout town.

The Arlington Fire Department's annual Santa Run will begin in the 4100 block of 166th Street. Riding atop a brightly decorated fire engine, fire department personnel, city employees and representatives from a variety of local service organizations will deliver candy canes to households throughout town while collecting donations for the needy.

"Last year we handed out thousands of candy canes, collected over $1,000 and 6,665 pounds of non-perishable food for the Arlington Food Bank," said firefighter and event organizer Ronda Davies. "This is our chance to meet directly with the community on their streets while also collecting much-needed donations for the Arlington Food Bank."

Davies added that donations are not required to enjoy the experience.

"When you hear Santa's fire truck siren, come outside and say hello," she urged. "Santa and his helpers would love to see your priceless smile, and share a sense of community as we celebrate the holiday season."

The Santa Run will take place daily from December 5 to 16. To see the schedule of stops, visit www.santarun.net.
