Operation Marysville Community Christmas (OMCC) organized an all-city food drive on Saturday, November 7, with community service groups and individuals stationed at local supermarket entrances to collect food and toys on behalf of families in need.
Employees from the City of Marysville staffed the Fred Meyer store, and volunteers greeted shoppers at Albertson's stores, Haggen Foods, IGA, Grocery Outlet and Kmart for the one-day event.
Throughout the season, donors can deposit food and toy contributions in the familiar red barrels located at more than 50 participating grocery stores, businesses, public buildings and places of worship.
OMCC operates through the Marysville Community Food Bank. For information about basket registration or donations to the food bank, call (360) 658-1054.
Community groups that actively support OMCC include Marysville Kiwanis, Lions, Soroptimist, Women of the Moose, and Rotary Clubs. The holiday efforts are also supported by many Marysville businesses including Kmart, Thriftway, Safeway, Albertson's, Fred Meyer and Grocery Outlet. OMCC volunteers also come from the Marysville Police Department, Marysville Fire District, Marysville Parks Department, Marysville Pilchuck-High School NJROTC, Marysville PTAs, and the Marysville School District, Girl Scouts, Boy Scouts, Camp Fire, and various Marysville church and youth groups, as well as many other businesses and individuals in the community.
OMCC helps the Marysville Community Food Bank to provide food at Thanksgiving and Christmas food and toys to approximately 700 families and 1,200 children in the Marysville area.
