Members of the Arlington Garden Club invited the family of Colleen Houser to help plant a tree in the late woman's memory during a tree-planting blitz Wednesday, November 11, along the Centennial Trail in downtown Arlington.
"Colleen was an avid gardener and had beautiful gardens," said Keli-Ann Diven, a friend of son Steve Houser. The local woman died of heart disease in February 2009.
The gardeners selected a dogwood tree for the memorial and included the honorary planting to coincide with a project adding 16 trees to downtown. The trees were provided to the club at a discount by Art by Nature nursery.
Garden club members Connie Gronning and Natalie Rosen joined president Bea Randall and students Amanda Lyon, Sufa Pinkens, Yuki Dorff, Michael Randall and Ryan Randall for the Veterans' Day planting project.
On hand to help plant the special tree in honor of Colleen Houser were her sons, Steve and Brad, and daughter Bonnie Malean.
