Hometown Halloween in Arlington
Saturday, October 31, Downtown Arlington welcomes kids in costumes of all kinds for trick or treating. Participating businesses the entire length of Olympic Avenue will have candy available from noon until 1:00, and there will be "trunk or treating" in the parking lot by City Hall, sponsored by Lifeway Church. A costume contest will be held at 1 p.m. at the Legion Park Gazebo, with prizes provided by the Local Scoop Café.
Arlington Hardware welcomes entries in its annual Pumpkin Carving Contest. Judging will be at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 31, with prizes for all entries and the grand prize of a new bicycle. Pumpkins of a different kind will be the focus of a pumpkin pie contest at Legion Park. Pies will be judged at noon by Mayor Margaret Larson, school Superintendent Kris McDuffy and Teri Bravomejia, an award-winning baker.
The Great Pumpkin Roll also returns this year, thanks to Lifeway Church. Bring your lucky pumpkin to First Street Hill (off of Olympic Ave.) after the costume contest at 1:30 p.m. Pumpkins will be rolled down the hill at 2 p.m., and prizes will be awarded.
Haunted Egg Hunt
Head to Jennings Memorial Park at 6915 Armar Rd. in Marysville on Friday, October 30, beginning at 7 p.m. for a special Halloween Haunted Egg Hunt sponsored by Kung Fu for Kids Academy and Marysville Parks and Rec. Organizers warn that "this isn't your little sister's egg hunt!" It takes place in the dark, with flashlights leading the way for kids 11 to 15 years old. Costumes encouraged for a "howling good time." Cost is $3 per participant, with registration required by October 29. Call (360) 363-8400.
"Thriller" at Egg Hunt
Camp Fire USA's Mega Club will perform a version of Michael Jackson's "Thriller," complete with zombie makeup and costuming, as part of the Haunted Egg Hunt Friday, October 30, at 7 p.m. at Jennings Memorial Park. The performance is a food drive for local food banks, with a special emphasis on gathering pet food. For more information, contact Leslie Buell at (425) 268-5285.
Trick or Treat at Olympic Place
From 2:30 to 4 p.m. on October 31, Olympic Place Retirement Facility, at 20909 Olympic Place in Arlington, invites the public to stop in for trick or treating and free pizza and snacks for families.
Halloween Mask-Making
Make your very own Halloween mask at Jennings Park at a mask-making party October 24 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the Gehl House, sponsored by the Marysville Historical Society. MHS members will provide cookies, apple cider, coffee and hot cocoa at the event, but participants will need to bring portable containers of water for brush cleaning.
