The 35th annual Rock, Gem, Jewelry and Mineral Show, sponsored by the Marysville Rock and Gem Club, is set for Saturday and Sunday, October 10 and 11, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Totem Middle School cafeteria. The school is located on the corner of 7th Street and State Avenue in Marysville.
The free show provides a chance for the public to view crystal and mineral specimens, faceted and precious gemstones, hand-crafted jewelry and other items made by local artisans.
A variety of exhibitors will demonstrate lapidary techniques, from shaping, grinding and polishing a stone to faceting techniques, wire wrapping and silversmithing. Maps of local collecting areas and dig sites will be available, and special activities for children are planned throughout the weekend.
Local dealers and rock-hunting enthusiasts will be on hand to answer questions and display rough rocks, slabs and fossils.
The show, which helps the club provide a scholarship for students studying geology and earth sciences, is a family-centered event, with activities planned for all ages.
