Are you hooked on "Dancing With the Stars" and want to learn those moves for yourself? Maybe your son or daughter is a budding dance enthusiast, like Eric and Rickie from "America's Got Talent."
Camp Fire USA is offering free family dance classes at Cedarcrest Middle School in Marysville as part of the organization's "Hold On to Health" and "Family Strengthening" initiatives.
Families can sign up for the free 4-week classes to learn swing, jazz and hip-hop dance styles with two of Seattle's top instructors, Mark Kihara and Darla Weiderman of SeattleSwing.com.
Family Swing Night takes place Mondays from October 5 through 26, 6:30 to 7:30 p.m., for students grades 1-6 and one adult with each youth. The child and parent will partner dance and learn swing steps and moves from the 1930s, '40s and '50s. Be sure to wear comfortable shoes and clothes.
Youngsters in grades 4-12 can learn about Jazz and the Roots of Hip-Hop Mondays, October 5 through 26, from 7:45 to 8:45 p.m. at Cedarcrest. In this solo dancing class (no dance partner required), students will learn moves and routines from jazz to hip-hop.
Pre-registration is required for both classes. Contact Camp Fire USA at (425) 258-5437 or visit www.campfireusasnohomish.org to find registration forms.
