Several local women were recipients of awards and scholarships presented recently by the Marysville chapter of Soroptimists International.
The Women's Opportunity Award is a cash prize presented to women who have primary financial responsibility for their families and are seeking to improve their economic status by gaining additional skills, training or education. This year's recipients were Lisa Rasmussen, Susan Payne and Venita Benitez.
Sadiqa Sakin, founder of the nonprofit organization World of Hearts, was presented with the Making a Difference for Women award, which honors a woman who improves the lives of women and girls through professional or volunteer work.
Jasleen Kaler, a recent graduate of Grace Academy, is this year's Violet Richardson Award winner. This award is given to a young woman between the ages of 14 and 17 who is actively engaged in volunteer work within her community or school.
