Downtown Arlington will be buzzing with excitement Saturday, September 19, for the city's second annual Community Day.
Special activities will take place downtown from noon to 5 p.m., including the annual BITE of Arlington featuring over 21 local restaurants, Touch a Truck in front of city hall, free entertainment at the Legion Park Gazebo and a farmers' market.
Angel of the Winds Casino sponsors a Poker Walk with over $500 in cash prizes, and local residents Frank Barden and George Boulton will lead historical walking tours at 1 and 2:30 p.m.
"This is a great event that's been created as a way to say 'thank you' to the community for all the great organizations that serve people right here in our town," said Downtown Arlington Business Association spokesperson Jeanne Watanabe.
Community service groups will staff booths in the City Hall parking lot during the day to share information with locals about their organizations and the services they provide. Local churches will also be on hand to manage the inflatable Bouncy Houses, face-painting and other kid-friendly activities.
For those needing low-cost dental care, visit the Dental Van for cleanings, fillings and extractions for only a $25 suggested donation.
Downtown merchants are planning sidewalk sales for the event, and special art exhibits will also be on display.
"Come see what Arlington has to offer," Watanabe invited. "It's a great opportunity to connect with the community."
