Summer is winding down, but there's still plenty of time to get out and enjoy the area's many hiking trails. To help you discover your favorites, the Snohomish County Tourism Bureau has produced "Hiking Snohomish County," a free guide highlighting twenty local hikes.

The book includes options for adventures along beaches, through old-growth forests and wildflower meadows, with destinations that vary from alpine lakes to mountaintops, waterfalls and historic sites.

If outdoor activities aren't your style, the bureau also offers a guide to the county's arts, culture and heritage opportunities.

Snohomish County's diverse arts and culture scene offers music, dance and theatre, along with abundant galleries.

The area's heritage, celebrated in a number of local museums, ranges from Native American to maritime and pioneer history, with logging, mining, railroad, farming and industrial beginnings.

Both free publications are available by calling (425) 348-5802, or order online at www.snohomish.org.
