Marysville's historic Third Street will be bustling with vendors, demonstrations, entertainment and shoppers for the 26th annual HomeGrown Festival, August 14 and 15.

"What sets this event apart from others is its local vitality. Visitors will find homegrown everything with friendly vendors and one-of-a-kind items," said Mary Burns, owner of The BookWorks and one of the event's organizers.

More than 80 vendors will be on hand, with many new exhibitors and interesting offerings.

In keeping with the local emphasis, hometown talent will be showcased during the Hometown Revue on Saturday, with energizing dance moves by the Step Sisters, Camp Fire USA kids, dancers from Marysville Performing Arts Centre, and Zumba. The Seattle Shores chorus will perform at 1 p.m., following a vegetable and fruit-carving contest. The public is also invited to participate in a hat and bonnet contest on Saturday.

"There are two ways to participate in the vegetable and fruit carving contest," said Hometown Revue coordinator Leslie Buell. "Build and bring a creation from home, or test your skills in a 15-minute timed contest." The audience will determine the contest winner.

"We will have great live entertainment both days that enhances the atmosphere of the stroll along Third Street," Burns continued. "It's all about flowers, homemade arts, strolling with your family and enjoying tasty street food."

In addition to the Hometown Revue, local musicians Kip Goozee and Kreekside Jazz will be featured in a free concert at the Outer Court next to the Carabinieri Bar on Friday night, August 14. On Saturday LeRoy Bell and His Only Friends will perform at the Outer Court, with tickets only $12. Call (360) 658-8691 for more information.

Third Street will be closed to car traffic from State Avenue to Alder St. both days.
