When Julia Ward Howe, author of "The Battle Hymn of the Republic," created a Mother's Day Proclamation in 1870, she envisioned mothers rising up everywhere in peace to unite the global community. To commemorate Mother's Day, Snohomish County RESULTS, a grassroots citizen group committed to eliminating global poverty and hunger, invites mothers and others to gather for peace on Saturday, May 9, from 10 a.m. to noon at Ferguson Park in Snohomish.

The free event will feature inspiring speeches, local musicians including Tim Noah, Bryan Stratton, Real Folk and more, and a children's Peace Art project.

According to Teresa Rugg, a RESULTS member, the 3rd Annual Mother's Day Gathering for Peace is "a day to inspire all to step up beyond concern and into action, locally and globally, because none of our children are truly safe and able to thrive unless all children are provided the most nurturing, healthy environments possible."

Attendees are encouraged to wear "bright, colorful clothing" and to bring homemade signs promoting peace. RESULTS will also be accepting donations for the Snohomish Food Bank at the event.

Ferguson Park is located at 1330 Ferguson Park Street, off Avenue D just north of Top Foods. For more information, e-mail twrugg@verizon.net.
