Organizations that arrange housing for foreign students are again recruiting host families for the 2009-2010 school year.
Jamin Henderson, a representative of the non-profit Washington Student Exchange, is looking for homes for four international students who will attend Marysville-Pilchuck High School next year. To be eligible for the exchange program, students must speak English and provide their own insurance and spending money.
Henderson is currently working to place students from Finland, Thailand, Switzerland and Ecuador. Host families do not need to have teenagers of their own, and young families as well as empty nesters may enjoy the opportunity to host one of these exceptional students.
The student from Finland is a girl who enjoys crafting, board games, swimming, snowboarding, drawing and traveling. The Thai student, a boy, enjoys playing guitar, basketball, soccer and swimming, and cooking. The Swiss girl loves to dance, and is also an avid volleyball player who enjoys spending time with family and camping. The fourth student is an active Ecuador boy who plays basketball and soccer, and likes to swim and write poetry.
