Linda and AnnAnn Hall of Everett and Linda Averill of Marysville were recently recognized for their volunteer work with the President's Volunteer Service Award. The sisters have each logged more than 4,000 lifetime hours in service to their communities.

Hall's activities have included a 10-year commitment to the Elks' student of the month program for Sno-Isle Skills Center students, and she also serves as the Washington State Vocational Grants chairperson for the Elks Club.

Averill is currently the Washington State Elks Scholarship chairperson, which will provide scholarships to 70 students this year. She also provides wardrobes and matching accessories for dolls that are distributed by the Salvation Army each Christmas.

Both women worked to develop a summer movie program for the North Everett Boys and Girls Club, and have helped provide dictionaries to third graders in Marysville and Everett schools.

Administered by the President's Council on Service and Civic Participation, the volunteer awards recognize those who give their time and resources in support of their communities. In January 2002, then-President George W. Bush called on Americans to dedicate at least two years or 4,000 hours over the course of their lives to serve others at home or abroad. Averill and Hall each received a certificate, a lapel pin and a congratulatory letter from the former president.
