Raising children is an incredible experience, but one that can be overwhelming at times, especially for first-time parents.
To help build important parenting skills, the Marysville Family YMCA is offering a comprehensive, evidence-based program called The Incredible Years that focuses on parents and caregivers living and working with toddlers, ages 6 to 36 months. The free 3-month course begins March 17 and runs through June 16.
The course uses group discussion, videotape modeling and rehearsal intervention techniques to prevent, reduce and treat conduct problems in toddlers while increasing their social competence.
The class teaches parents practical ways to build positive relationships with their toddler while minimizing separation and behavior issues. Parents will also learn about teaching children to regulate their emotions, and techniques to increase their readiness for school.
The Incredible Years class will meet Tuesdays from 10 a.m. to noon in the YMCA's Multi-Purpose Room, with free lunch served from noon to 12:30 p.m. Child care is included at no cost.
The Marysville Family YMCA is located at 6420-60th Drive NE. For information or to register, contact Vickie Southern at (360) 651-1608.
