Mary Brill of Marysville is looking forward to taking her family to this year's 4-1-1 festival.

"We went last year, in spite of the snow, and found out some really great things about the community," said Brill, whose family had recently moved to the Marysville area. "And our sons really enjoyed all the activities."

The Marysville 4-1-1 Community Connections Festival will take place this year on Saturday, March 21, from 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Like last year, the free event will be held at Totem Middle School, located on the corner of State Avenue and 7th Street.

A free lunch of sub sandwiches, chips, healthy fruit options and drinks will be served in the school's cafeteria beginning at 11:30 a.m. Representatives of dozens of nonprofit and governmental agencies will be on hand to provide pertinent information for local families.

Guest speakers include Rick Pribbernow, a widely respected parenting expert and Compass Health counselor who will talk about stress management from 11:30 a.m.-noon. Michelle Rastovich will speak on Developmental Assets, a simple program that can have a powerful impact on the lives of young people, from 1:30-2 p.m.

Attendees will be able to drop by more than two dozen informational booths to get the 4-1-1 on the latest community health and safety resources. Participating agencies include Marysville School District, Marysville Parks and Recreation, Marysville Fire District, YMCA, 2-1-1, Sno-Isle Regional Library, Kloz 4 Kids, Salvation Army, Marysville Youth Action Network (MYAN), Housing Authority of Snohomish County, Campfire USA, Teens Against Tobacco Use (TATU), YMCA, Compass Health, Families and Friends of Victims of Violent Crimes, and Providence Hospital Intervention Center for Assault and Abuse.

In addition to information booths, a full schedule of entertainment and activities are planned. The Marysville Fire Department will have a fire truck on hand for kids to explore, interactive video games will be offered by library staff, and Camp Fire volunteers will provide crafts and activities for kids. Local musicians, singers and dancers are scheduled to perform throughout the day.

The Aquasox mascot, Webbly, will make a special appearance from 1 to 2 p.m. Kids can also meet OxyGene, Community Transit's popular superhero mascot, and Marysville School District's Rudy Raccoon.

"This is your chance to get the 4-1-1 on free resources, referrals and information from local community assistance organizations," said Cathy Schindler, chair of the Marysville Community Coalition, the group responsible for organizing the event.

"The Coalition's goal is to make local families aware of the wide range of community-based resources and programs available to them, shared in a fun, casual setting," Schindler continued. "We want people of all cultures and backgrounds to be more knowledgeable about the services available to them in this area."

The Community Connections Festival is sponsored by the Marysville Community Coalition, Community Mobilization and the City of Marysville.
