Camp Fire of Snohomish County is very close to reaching the nonprofit's $2.7 million capital campaign goal to fund improvements to Camp Killoqua and expand program offerings. But the agency's leaders are not spending any time patting themselves on the back.
Capital campaign coordinator Toby Brown recently announced a $75,000 donation by the D.V. and Ida McEachern Charitable Trust, which puts the group within striking distance of a $100,000 "top-off" challenge grant from the M.J. Murdock Charitable Trust.
The campaign's current focus is to raise $182,000 to build the new Tyee Unit at Camp Killoqua, the fourth of five new structures at the camp. The Tyee building will provide space for 200 additional youngsters to attend Camp Killoqua each year.
"Even in this economy, Camp Fire supporters have been responding to the capital campaign challenge," Brown explained, "because they understand the benefits to Snohomish County's children." To meet the campaign's overall goal, Brown is determined to raise an additional $459,650.
John McEachern Cooley, senior member of the McEachern Charitable Trust team, said, "Many of the advisors to the Trust have a longstanding relationship with Camp Fire, as Bluebirds and as leaders of groups for our own children. We recognized and experienced the shared values of Camp Fire, and our families are proud to continue our support for this most valuable community asset."
With donations received over the past two years, Camp Fire has already completed the camp's Multi-Purpose Pavilion, the boys' shower house and restroom, and the Welcome Center that will host Legacy Square, featuring granite pavers with donors' names inscribed.
