The American Red Cross is encouraging local residents who are fluent in a foreign language in addition to English to consider offering those skills as a volunteer translator/interpreter for your neighbors in need.

Bilingual volunteers are needed to present community disaster education programs and staff disaster relief emergency shelters. Other critical needs include disaster action team members responding to local disasters such as house and apartment fires, mental health counselors, registered nurses and health and safety course instructors.

The greatest need for the Snohomish County Chapter is for bilingual translators speaking Spanish, Russian, Ukrainian, Korean, Tagalog, Vietnamese, Lao, Cambodian or Arabic.

Volunteer time commitments are based on the availability of the individual volunteer. If interested, call Diana Schmid, 425-740-2327, or e-mail schmidd@snohomishcounty.redcross.org.
