Gerry Andal has a new home

by Beckye Randall

Stanwood's western-themed restaurant, Blazing Saddles, located downtown at 27021-102nd Ave. NW, is now owned and operated by well-known restaurateur and entertainer Gerry Andal.

Blazing Saddles had experienced its share of problems, according to former patrons. Slow service, poorly-prepared food and sporadic operating hours contributed to its demise.

"When you walked in here before, you often felt ignored," said one diner who declined to be identified. "That's certainly not the case now."

Gerry AndalThe eatery, renamed simply Gerry Andal's, opened January 1, and is open daily for breakfast, lunch and dinner. The menu contains standard "American cuisine" breakfast and lunch items.

Dinner guests will find a full selection of moderately priced steaks, seafood, chicken and pasta dishes, plus a special selection of items that Andal calls "Down Home Cookin'," featuring pot roast, turkey and several other comfort food favorites. A full bar complements the dining options.

Music fans will be happy to hear that Andal's band, Gerry Andal and the Roughriders, will be playing country and classic rock music Friday and Saturday nights starting at 9 p.m.

Although he enjoys entertaining customers, Andal emphasized that the primary focus of the restaurant is providing quality meals 7 days a week. Reservations are accepted and especially recommended for weekend evenings.

Gerry Andal brings more than fifteen years of restaurant experience with him, mostly from Gerry Andal's Ranch Restaurants in Everett, Auburn and Olympia, but also from the Longhorn Bar and Grill in Seattle's University District. He has also hosted his own country music TV shows and has multiple country music albums to his credit.

To make a reservation, phone (360) 629-6569. The restaurant opens at 6 a.m. everyday.
