Marysville Fire District has added twelve new members to its team of dedicated firefighters following the recruits' completion of a 12-week training program.

The men graduated from the Washington State Fire Academy on November 7. After completion of the academy program, they participated in a week of countywide training. Several of the recruits have been assigned to the new station that opened November 15 in the Sunnyside area, while others are working at stations throughout Marysville.

Basil Bailey, Joseph Ballif, Tristan Brenner, Grant Elsworth, Brien Gronemyer, Aaron Hammer, Michael Lewis, Nathanael Merseal, Shayne Pierce, Christopher Skagen, Daniel Storer and Andrew Vander Veen were recognized for successful completion of the 12-week North Bend Academy program at the graduation celebration held November 7 at the Criminal Justice Training Center in Burien.

Members of the graduating class earned several awards at the ceremony. The Bulldog Award, which is presented weekly to a recruit who shows the most determination, was given to Gronemyer, Elsworth, Vander Veen and Lewis. Chief's Awards, nicknamed the "Truckie" and "Engine," went to Gronemyer, Elsworth and Vander Veen.
