Sunrise Rotary kicks off fundraising efforts with 7-day Mexican cruise
Members and supporters of the Marysville Sunrise Rotary enjoyed a 7-day Mexican Riviera cruise in late September. The weeklong cruise was a fundraiser for the service organization, the first of several planned to help the club meet its current charitable goal.
“We’re planning to purchase a container full of wheelchairs,” said club president Sue Stevenson, “and personally deliver them to needy persons in Central America next spring.”
Rotary International maintains a worldwide focus on the eradication of polio, and the local club’s efforts complement that goal.
Over the next several months, the Sunrise Rotary group hopes to raise $14,500 to purchase the 110 wheelchairs.
“We’re offering a great opportunity to purchase a chair in the name of a friend or family member as a Christmas gift,” Stevenson said. The honoree will receive a photo of the wheelchair recipient once the chair is delivered.
Additional fundraising activities will be scheduled throughout the year to meet the substantial goal.
Marysville Sunrise Rotary meets every Thursday at 7:15 a.m. at Fanny’s Restaurant, 505 Cedar St. in Marysville. Visitors are always welcome.
