Foundation raises $36,000 for Sno-Isle libraries
Thanks to the generosity of patrons attending an October gala event, the Sno-Isle Libraries Foundation raised $36,000 to help support services and programming in 2008. Financial and in-kind support from more than 20 businesses and community organizations contributed to the fundraiser’s success, which will provide about a third of the non-profit organization’s 2008 budget.
The October 20 event at the Snohomish Library, titled “Adventure Awaits,” drew more than 100 guests. Many of the services and resources funded by the library foundation, which enhance tax-supported library offerings, were on display for donors.
Programs that depend on foundation funds include:
Books for Babies, a literacy project that provides books and reading materials to every child born in Snohomish and Island counties;
Teen Pilot Project, one of 20 projects in the nation selected for the prestigious leadership program with the Urban Libraries Council, designed to improve programming and services for teens in libraries;
Tumblebooks, an innovative online animated talking book program for young readers.
The Sno-Isle Libraries serve more than 600,000 residents in Snohomish and Island counties.
