Arlington Flight Services, a full-service fixed-base operator (FBO), has taken over the offices formerly occupied by Glasair Aviation on the north terminus of the Arlington Airport's main runway. After extensive renovations to the space, the business is hosting an open house that includes introductory flights, a free barbecue lunch and tours of the facility on Saturday, June 23, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

AFS will provide a host of services for pilots who use the municipal airport, whether for their home base or as a destination. Owner Kevin Duncan notes that, in addition to flight lessons and a flight simulator, AFS has arranged for the services of Dr. Ronan Murphy, an aeronautical medical examiner, who will be available Wednesday mornings to provide pilots' medical checkups to comply with FAA rules.

The business offers classes, aircraft rentals, mechanics' services, a pilot's lounge area and even lessons for pilots' spouses, designed for emergency situations rather than flight certification.

In the near future, Duncan plans to add 10,000-gallon underground fuel tanks to provide not only aviation fuel but regular automobile gasoline, a service not currently available at the airport. The business will also eventually offer rental car services.

Other new airport developments include the transformation of the previous Bayliner/Meridian Yachts space into the Arlington Advanced Manufacturing Park. The 40-acre site, with 460,000 square feet of indoor space available, will soon house local favorite Skookum Brewery, along with Thain Boats and Pacific Tank and Energy.
