Aviation technology continues to be a strong employment sector in Snohomish County, and those interested in exploring career options in the industry are invited to attend an information session June 9 at 2:30 p.m. at Everett Community College's Aviation Maintenance Technician School, located at 9711-32nd Pl. W., Building C-80, at Paine Field in Everett.

EvCC's Aviation Maintenance Technician School is one of only about 150 schools nationwide that offer comprehensive training in airframe and powerplant mechanics. In the eight-quarter, 2,040-hour program, students learn about 45 subjects and work hands-on with a variety of fixed-wing aircraft and helicopters.

The coursework prepares students for a Federal Aviation Administration Airframe and Powerplant license. Class graduates receive a certificate in Aviation Technology, and can continue their schooling to earn an associate of technical arts (ATA) degree in Aviation Maintenance Technology.

Demand for licensed airframe and powerplant mechanics is expected to grow over the next decade, as older mechanics retire. The median hourly earnings of aircraft mechanics and service technicians are steadily increasing.

EvCC's program is accepting new students for fall quarter 2011. Attendance at an information session is required for admittance to the program.
