What do an IT specialist, a financial adviser, a real estate agent, a success coach and a Party Lite consultant have in common?
While the political and financial pundits report doom and gloom on the economic horizon, these folks are joining forces to strengthen their position in the marketplace and reach out to the community in a meaningful way.
North Sound Professionals and Arlington Business Builders, two local networking groups dedicated to increasing commerce in the area, are collaborating on biennial events to draw entrepreneurs and small business owners together to strengthen the community.
Their first effort will be a wine tasting and networking event set for Thursday, August 26, at the Windermere Real Estate office at 210 E Burke Ave., Arlington, beginning at 6:30 p.m. The event features the wines of local vintner Willis Hall Winery, and supports Fresh Start Ministries, an outreach program committed to those whose lives have been shattered by chemical dependency, crime, and past abuse. Tickets are $25 at the door.
"This event promises to be an exciting evening of networking and wine-tasting while benefiting a local charity that serves our community," said North Sound Professionals president Pam Burley.
Ely Cyr, organizer for Arlington Business Builders added, "We are a growing group of local business owners and entrepreneurs, not limited to just one representative from a business type or industry, and we are focused on being non-competitive in nature." The group meets twice a month at Petite Sweets in Arlington and at Boondocker's Restaurant in Marysville.
North Sound Professionals' motto is: "Businesses strengthening our communities through effective networking and support." The group holds an open meeting the third Wednesday of every month.
The two groups connected through Geralynne Brunt, a mutual member who owns Impetus: New Perspectives, a marketing and sales consulting company working specifically with small businesses.
"I noticed that both groups have compatible philosophies and goals," Brunt explained. "So why not bring them together? It's what social networking is all about."
