For the second time in five years, Cascade Valley Hospital has received national praise for its Wound Care Center. The local program was one of fifteen centers, out of a nationwide network of 260, to be named a Center of Distinction by Diversified Clinical Service (DCS).

Cascade Valley Hospital partners with DCS to provide specialized treatments through the Wound Care Center.

During a recent ceremony, Clark Jones, Cascade Valley's CEO, said, "Because of the Wound Care Center's high patient satisfaction, exceptional healing rates and outstanding clinical outcomes, this Center of Distinction Award is well earned by program director Michael Handley and his team."

"We're honored," said Handley, a Marysville resident. "It's a privilege to be part of a great collaborative effort between the hospital and DCS. Together, we are able to positively affect our patients and help them to regain a quality of life. This award is reflective of the medical skills, commitment to patients by the hospital, and tremendous dedication of the entire clinic staff."

"During our eleven years of operation we have had over 35,000 patient encounters," Handley continued. "We are sought after and oftentimes patients travel from Snohomish, Island, Skagit and even Whatcom County to be seen by this staff."

The Cascade Valley Wound Care Center has consistently obtained patient satisfaction rates in the upper 90 percent range with healing outcomes as high as 98 percent within as few as 31 days.

Much of the success is due to continuity. Since the opening of the center, Arlington residents Peter Wolff, M.D., and clinical coordinator Teri Burt, RN, have been an integral part of all patient care and clinical leadership. Todd Skiles, DPM, who is also a Marysville resident, has been a podiatrist with the wound care team since its creation.

Cascade Valley Hospital is undergoing a major renovation and plans to upgrade the Wound Care Center this summer as well. Their patient volume has steadily increased over the past three years.
