Healthy alternatives the focus of local chiropractor
by Beckye Randall
Dr. Matt McCann, a local chiropractor, is dedicated to treating the whole patient, and his practice reflects that holistic outlook.
McCann Family Chiropractic, located at 11605 State Avenue, Suite 111, is a friendly office that welcomes patients of all ages. Dr. McCann, who has been practicing chiropractic for five years, has treated children as young as 4 days old, while his eldest patient was 96.
"We focus on family wellness care," said McCann. "My motto is 'eat well, move well, think well,' and that captures the spirit of the office."
McCann is an advocate of natural treatments for problems that might otherwise be addressed with medications.
"ADHD is an example," he said. "There are several studies that indicate ADHD behavior may be a result of a child's diet, and can be eased by eliminating milk and gluten products."
McCann's youthful appearance notwithstanding, he is a highly-trained health practitioner. In addition to earning his chiropractic degree, McCann is also qualified as a Certified Chiropractic and Wellness Practitioner (CCWP) by the International Chiropractic Association.
"Chiropractic care works with the nervous system, and is based on the principle that the body must have constant and appropriate nerve communication to function properly," McCann explained. "When pressure interferes, it often results in pain. I call it dis-function or dis-ease."
Maintaining a holistic approach to health certainly doesn't exclude the use of cutting-edge technology. McCann uses the Insight Millennium diagnostic tool, which provides a deeper look into the central nervous system and creates a display image that is easy to read and understand for both the practitioner and the patient.
"The Insight Millennium instrument helps map pain sensitivity and motor deficits in a series of non-invasive procedures," said McCann. "The results are displayed in a graph, and the patient's progress can be monitored and validated."
The family chiropractic practice also employs Pettibon rehabilitation techniques, gentle chiropractic adjustments, and wellness-lifestyle coaching to realize measurable health improvements.
The Webster technique, in which McCann is proficient, is used to help pregnant women in their third trimester create uterine space, allowing the baby to turn to the correct position for natural childbirth.
In addition to chiropractic care, the office also offers therapeutic massage sessions, administered by licensed and certified therapists.
Matt McCann and his wife, Monica, are deeply involved in the Marysville community. Monica grew up in Marysville and is a graduate of Marysville-Pilchuck High School, and the couple attends Mt. View Presbyterian Church. Dr. McCann is an active member of the Greater Marysville Tulalip Chamber of Commerce.
"Listen to your body and you can dramatically alter your well-being," Dr. McCann stated. "The old adage is true: you are what you eat."
