The Everett Philharmonic Orchestra and conductor Dr. Paul-Elliott Cobbs present their second concert of the season, Music for the Imagination, at 3 p.m. on Sunday, November 27 in Everett's Civic Auditorium.

The family-friendly program features the classic "Peter and the Wolf," an electrifying show for kids from 3 to 93.

"It is geared for the enjoyment of the entire family," said Cobbs. "In Music for the Imagination the orchestra bows, blows and beats out some of classical music's unique compositions, suggesting story lines limited only by the listener's imagination."

"The concert is not only for the young," said Cobbs, "although observing the kids' pleasure is a hoot in itself."

The Everett Youth Symphony will open the afternoon's festivities with Arturo Márquez' Danzón No 2. Then the musicians of the Everett Philharmonic will take the stage and perform Humperdinck's "Hansel and Gretel Overture and Witch's Ride" with its stirring mix of intense imagery.

Next, Hannah Kim, winner of the Snohomish County Music Teachers Association Concerto Competition, will join the Philharmonic in a rousing rendition of the Rondo movement of Beethoven's Piano Concerto No. 1.

The audience will continue the afternoon's musical journey with a narrated version of Sergei Prokofiev's "Peter and the Wolf," a musical treat that introduces the sounds of the instruments as characters in the story.

The Everett Youth Symphony will join the Everett Philharmonic and travel to a place a long time ago in a galaxy far, far away. Experience John Williams' "Star Wars" and feel fear, passion and the awesome power of the Force.

Culminating the evening's performance, the EPO invites the winner of the 2011 Gala Spring Fling contest, William Sibbers, to the stage to conduct the inimitable "Stars and Stripes."

A "Meet the Instruments" opportunity will follow the concert where youngsters will be able to get up close and personal with the various instruments of the orchestra. Learn a little about each instrument as you watch the musicians pluck, toot and pound the violins, horns and drums.

Tickets are priced at $40 for a family of four (add more for $10 each). Individual tickets are $20. For the best value, gather a few friends and make your own family-for-a-day.

Doors open at 2:15 p.m. for festival seating. Tickets are available online at www.everettphil.org or by phone at (206) 270-9729.
