Nunsense

The Little Sisters of Hoboken have a problem. The convent's cook, Julia, Child of God, has succumbed to a tainted batch of vichyssoise, along with most of the other nuns. The five survivors, who missed the dinner because of a rival bingo game, now have to raise enough money to pay for fifty-two burials. They almost make it, but four departed sisters are waiting in the deep freeze for their turn and the nuns are out of money.

What to do? Mount a talent show, of course! Mother Superior Mary Regina, a former circus performer, enlists the help of Sister Mary Hubert, Sister Robert Anne, Sister Mary Leo and Sister Mary Amnesia in the cause, with hilarious results.

"Nunsense" is presented by Last Leaf Productions at the Byrnes Performing Arts Center for one performance only, set for Saturday, January 16, at 2 p.m.

The long-running musical comedy hit by Dan Groggin features vaudeville-inspired songs along with ribald (not raunchy) humor. The show encourages audience participation and tacky prizes, all in good fun.

Tickets are $12, available at www.byrnesperformingarts.org. The production is co-sponsored by the City of Arlington and the Arlington Arts Council.
